New search functionality on Kitbag.com
allows better control of landing pages

We've added some extra search functionality to Kitbag.com. As you may already know, it's been possible for quite a while to externally deeplink to Kitbag searches (which triggers a real time search query against Kitbag products when landing), using the following url structure:

http://www.kitbag.com/stores/kitbag_4_5/products/search_products.aspx?search=tottenham+shirts

The extra functionality allows control of the display order of search results, replicating the following radio buttons that exists on search results pages that allow customers to fine tune the search results. The options available are as follows:

• Most recent
• Type
• Price (low - high)
• Price (high - low)
• Description

All pretty much self explanatory.

The extra parameter that controls the display order is called "order", and is populated with the following control parameters:

• order=most (shows most recently added to site first)
• order=type (groups products by product type, eg all shirts, then shorts etc)
• order=low (shows cheapest products first)
• order=high (shows most expensive products first)
• order=desc (displays products alphabetically A-Z)

Some examples:

Search for "cheapest soft ground football boots":
http://www.kitbag.com/stores/kitbag_4_5/products/search_products.aspx?search=soft+ground+football+boots&order=low

Search for "newest tracksuits":

The only exceptions to the above is where we have already designated landing pages for what are typically navigational searches (eg "Liverpool") where we already route the search to certain pages that are deemed most relevant.

Please experiment with this new facility, and let me know if you have any issues or questions about it, as well as any feedback or suggestions.

This new functionality works with affiliate and partner deeplinks in the same way. There will be a further deployment to follow soon where this search order functionality can be used when landing at pre-built Kitbag.com categories. Watch this space !

England to win the World Cup?

High demand for England shirts & products now expected
due to England qualifying for the 2010 World Cup

After England's 5-1 demolition of Croatia in their World Cup 2010 qualifier last night which meant they've now qualified, we're quite England crazy here at Kitbag.com at the moment!!

Of course, every England fan (& newspaper and TV sports channel!) for the next 9 months will be optimistic that England can finally win the World Cup ..... we always think this way ..... but there was a certain style and steely determination about England's performance last night that had me wondering whether or not it might just be our time ...... we shall see !
